Product Range

The Welsh Slate range of products is the most varied and comprehensive available. For external purposes it includes roofing slates, slate cladding, slate paving, walling, sills and copings, landscaping and then aggregates for civil engineering works.

Natural slate can withstand the most extreme environmental and weather conditions and combined with its unique natural beauty makes it the material of choice for a massive range of diverse applications.

Finishes & Textures

Natural Welsh slate is available in a range of finishes and textures.

Riven/Cleaved

The natural texture of slate when split along the cleavage plane. Products available with this finish are roofing slate, flooring and paving tiles and walling.

Honed/Polished

The slate is mechanically polished to produce a smooth finish. Typically used for worktops, fire hearths and surrounds and sills.

Flamed

A sawn slate surface is subject to rapid heating and cooling by water to give a uniformed textured appearance suitable for paving, fire hearths and cladding.

Bush Hammered (Stippled)

The sawn slate surface is distressed mechanically to give a uniformed stippled surface suitable for paving and cladding.

A smooth unpolished finish typically used for sills, copings and steps.

Colours

There are five colours that naturally arise from the quarries of Welsh Slate.  Roofing slate is available in two of these – Penrhyn Heather Blue and Cwt-y-Bugail Dark Blue Grey, whereas architectural products are available in three – all of the above plus Penrhyn Heather Grey.

Natural aggregate colours are classified as Plum (Penrhyn Heather Red), Blue (Penrhyn Heather Blue) and Green.

Penrhyn Heather Blue

One of the traditional Penrhyn colours, also known as Bangor Blue, and perhaps the best well known Welsh Slate colour.

The traditional Ffestiniog colour, a dark blue grey with occasional white veins which makes the material ideal for all applications.
